Automatic BPM Encounter
« on: January 12, 2010, 05:50:41 pm »
Hi!, im a new owner of the RMP-1 Scratch
Im quite impressed, but what annoys me is that the automatic BPM counter is quite unprecise, i mean, it jumps alot on the BPM, which makes it hard for me to mix. I just wanted to hear if i could turn the automatic BPM encounter off somehow?
Thanks in advance ! :)

the beatcounter is just to show you the approximate speed of the track.
it is not precise enough to do exact beatmatching, this should be done with headphone and ears.
the automatic beatcounter cannot be switched of, but why does it annoy you ?

It's like the BPM encounter slows my track down..
I mean, like when i play two tracks at the same time, some might have some delay, and won't count the same BPM as the other one does, that makes the track go slower, and go offbeat.

Its the same with the RMP-2,s, ie the BPM counter is floaty as hell.
Its a double edged sword. On one hand it teaches you to use your
ear and not rely on a counter. On the other hand, you spend can
spend abit of time cueing up and matching beats. Detracts from
your listening of the music abit. Its one thing the Pioneer players
have over the Reloops....accurate beat counters that find the bpm
and lock it in.
I like it and i don,t. Kind of makes you feel like your using turntables
and my beatmatching is fine...but an accurate counter, rather than a
token gesture would of been better.

I don,t like the time/ratio/jog business to adjust efx frequency
output either. What ever happened to a dial/knob/button?
And i still don,t fully understand what i,m doing there.

Lastly the way the player goes auto pause when a disc is
inserted. Gets annoying that does. And why when you select
a track ie 9,then eject disc...re-insert disc to play/cue trk 9
and the player starts playing  the disc from the beginning(trk1)
causing you to have to find it (trk 9) again.

But yes,if Pioneer can put in accurate bpm counters, why
not Reloop?... ??? :)

I did fail to say that the Reloop players
are pretty easy to use with your your
ear. The players have this uncanny knack
of matching the beats. Those that have
used them will hopefully understand
what i,m saying.

Look at this as customer feedback Stefan ;)
Once you get cooking, its pretty tight gear.
Just hope i,m saying the same thing in 6mths. :D

As it stands, all due respect to a great product.

I have 3 rmp-2's that work fine but 1 of my rmp3's is speeding up and slowing down of its own accord and i cant figure out why.....I'm forever chasing the track as DJexmortis explains. there is defo a problem hear regardless wether or not we are using our ears or not as none of my  reloop CDJ's have this issue.

I think it was said well above, in that the BPM counter is a double edged sword.

I am no means an expert DJ, but I have played on various players/mixers that have had counters on them.  Like the pioneer cdj 1000's, whilst the counter is more accurate, you still have to use your skills to match both tracks perfectly.

One thing I have noticed, is with the quality of the track that has been burnt, so if it's a lower bit rate then the counter is going to be less accurate.

The beat counter on the RMP-2's, I find to be very good, in that it gives me the general area I need to be and then I just use the headphones and match the beats that way, fine tuning til I have it spot on, or as close to, then just use the jog wheel to keep it in check if it goes slightly astray.  My friend owns 1000's and it's the same with them.

The RMP-2,s seem to find the beat count and give you a few seconds
to adjust it via the tempo linefader*. Then they tend to float rather than locking in
an exact beat count, ie 125bpm.
I,m having no hassle using them and my ear (touch wood).
But having said that, at $800plus odd dollars a cdj,i,d be expecting
the beatcounter mechanisim to be totally solid. The Pioneer cdj,s
find the beatcount and lock it in. Better for beginners i guess.
Reloop i would recommend for the more experienced dj.

*Great 'smooth as silk' feel to the tempo linefader.
